Kroger Store History
Kroger was originally founded in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1883 by Bernard Kroger. Kroger invested his life savings of $372 to open the store (in today’s money this is equivalent to around $9,400). Kroger was one of the first supermarkets to offer bakery services, and was the first to monitor product quality through food testing. Another advancement pioneered by Kroger was the parking lot layout of surrounding a store completely on all four sides with parking spaces.
